Thank you StormSignal, for the great advice. I added a cleat to the flagstaff I made yesterday. Also, I used a shackle for the top eyelet in the flag to eliminate rope chafe at that point and inserted a rubber plug inside the tube past the endplug. Now the mast floats too.
